Comunicado del municipio autónomo de San Juan Copala: no compartimos la
política a través de partidos, y a partir de esta fecha únicamente
diremos nuestra palabra a través de comunicados

A LOS PUEBLOS DE MÉXICO Y EL MUNDO
A LAS ORGANIZACIONES SOCIALES
A LA OTRA CAMPAÑA

A un mes del brutal crimen de Alberta Cariño Trujillo y Jyri Antero
Jaakkola, y después de que fueran privadas ilegalmente de su libertad un
grupo de mujeres y niños, grupos defensores  y observadores de derechos
humanos han escuchado nuestra palabra de solicitud de auxilio y han
decidido llevar una esperanza de alimentación, paz y justicia a San Juan
Copala.

El silencio cruel del gobierno del Estado sólo deja al descubierto a
quien se sabe corresponsable de este cobarde suceso; es esta permanente
impunidad, el motivo principal que impulsa a quienes el día 20 de mayo
empujan la mano de quien ejecuta la orden del poderoso para seguir
enlutando la vida de nuestras comunidades al asesinar a nuestro
compañero Timoteo Alejandro Ramírez y a su esposa Tleriberta Castro Aguilar.

Fue Timoteo sin duda quien con su palabra y ejemplo despertó la
conciencia de muchos triquis que en el 2006 decidieron dejar las
organizaciones en las que militaban y recuperar su capacidad de dirigir
sus destinos propios y los de sus comunidades. Es así como nace el
movimiento de unificación y lucha triqui independiente. Misma
organización que el 20 de enero del 2007 plasma su primer logro de
unidad en la creación del municipio autónomo de San Juan Copala. Todo
este proceso no se entendería sin la atinada dirección de Timoteo, quien
tuvo siempre como máxima cualidad el amor por su pueblo.

Nuevamente nos dirigimos a ustedes compañeros de las organizaciones no
gubernamentales, organizaciones de derechos humanos, adherentes a la
otra campaña y a todas las gentes que tengan buen corazón para
solicitarles que exijan y vigilen, junto con nosotros, estos crímenes y
todas las injusticias que el poderoso manda para que nuestro pueblo sea
castigado. Es necesario decir que en estos tres años el acoso
paramilitar a nuestro pueblo no ha cesado; todos los días están tratando
de acabar con la resistencia de tal forma que abandonemos nuestro
municipio, que es por supuesto para ellos, un símbolo de dignidad y
resistencia que no soportan.

Por lo que para nosotros es ciertamente una hermosa esperanza de vida la
CARAVANA “Bety Cariño y Jiri Antero” que arribará a nuestro pueblo el
día 8 de junio. Pero al mismo tiempo es necesario aclarar que
agradecemos de todo corazón a todos los que se han solidarizado con
nuestra causa, no olviden que nuestro proyecto tiene como objetivo final
la autonomía, que estamos seguros traerá la justicia, la paz y el
desarrollo a nuestro territorio. Por lo tanto es importante que todos
entiendan que no compartimos la política a través de partidos, pues
sabemos por experiencia que son éstos una de las herramientas del
poderoso para dividir y confrontar a nuestros pueblos. Por eso en su
nombre llevan el título de lo que adolecen; “partidos”, divididos. En
cambio en nuestro pueblo somos enteros porque manda y decide la
asamblea. Esperamos que sean respetuosos del proyecto que estamos
defendiendo incluso con la vida y que nadie quiera abanderar nuestra
causa para obtener ganancias económicas o políticas para su grupo.
Es por eso que les pedimos, a todas las personas y organizaciones
Internacionales, del Norte y centro del País que nos quieran acompañar,
que pasen a registrarse y a pedir información al plantón que mantenemos
en el zócalo del Distrito Federal, y a las personas y organizaciones
Oaxaqueñas y del sur de la República que se registren y pidan
información de Lunes a Viernes de 10 am a 2 pm al Tel. 5141634. Los
asistentes deben acudir en actitud de respeto y solidaridad, sin
actitudes de protagonismo ni provocación; nosotros mismos iremos
coordinando y dirigiendo la caravana.

Por último, a los medios de comunicación les informamos que, a partir de
esta fecha, únicamente diremos nuestra palabra a través de comunicados,
pues consideramos que al no hablar el idioma español de manera clara y
precisa, algunos periodistas han mal interpretado nuestra palabra
escribiendo en sus diarios cosas que no quisimos decir. Esto ha
provocado una seria llamada de atención de nuestra asamblea comunitaria;
misma que tomó este acuerdo y nos dio el mandato. Así les haremos llegar
nuestra palabra y agradecemos sinceramente a quienes tengan a bien
publicarla.

Communiqué from the Autonomous Municipality of San Juan Copala: We do
not engage in party politics and, as of now, we will only speak through
communiqués

TO THE HONEST NEWS MEDIA
TO THE PEOPLES OF MEXICO AND THE WORLD
TO THE SOCIAL ORGANIZATIONS
TO THE OTHER CAMPAIGN

One month after the brutal crime against Alberta Cariño Trujillo and
Jyri Antero Jaakkola, and after a subsequent incident in which a group
of women and children were illegally deprived of their freedom, human
rights defenders and observers have heard our call for help and have
decided to bring hope for food, peace, and justice to San Juan Copala.
The cruel silence of the state government only exposes those responsible
for these cowardly actions. Last May 20, ongoing impunity was behind the
hand of gunmen who carried out orders from on high, murdering our
comrade Timoteo Alejandro Ramírez and his wife Tleriberta Casto Aguilar,
and plunging our communities into mourning once again.

There’s no question about the fact that it was Timoteo, with his word
and his example, who aroused the consciousness of many Triquis and
influenced their decision to leave their former organizations and take
their destiny and that of their communities into their own hands in
2006. That’s how the Independent Movement of Triqui Unification and
Struggle came into being. On January 20, 2007, the organization took its
first successful step towards unity in the creation of the autonomous
municipality of San Juan Copala. An understanding of the whole process
could never have been achieved without the wise leadership of Timoteo,
who was always guided, above all, by love for his people.

Once again, we turn to you comrades in the ONGs, human rights
organizations, the Other Campaign, and to all good-hearted people to ask
that you join us in witnessing and opposing the crimes and injustices
ordered by the powerful to punish our people. We must repeat that the
paramilitary activity against our people has been unceasing for the last
three years, through daily harassment and attacks intended to put an end
to our resistance and force us to abandon our autonomous municipality
––a symbol of dignity and resistance that is, of course,  intolerable to
the powers that be.

What truly gives us a beautiful hope for life is the “Bety Cariño and
Jiri Antero CARAVAN” that will arrive in our town on June 8. But at the
same time, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has stood in
solidarity with our cause and urge you not to forget that the main goal
of our project is the autonomy that will surely bring justice, peace,
and development to our territory. With this in mind, it is important for
everyone to understand that we do not engage in party politics because
we know from experience that it is one of the tools of the powerful to
divide our peoples and set us against each other. The term itself
expresses the ailment; “part-y”, or divided. In our town, on the other
hand, we are whole, because the ruling, decision-making body is the
assembly. We hope that all of you will be respectful of the project we
are defending with our very lives and hope that no one wishes to abandon
our cause in order to obtain economic or political benefits for his or
her group.

And so we ask all international people and organizations and those from
the northern and central parts of the country who wish to stand with us,
to get informed and register in our encampment in the Mexico City
Zocalo, and we ask everyone from Oaxaca and the southern part of the
country to get informed and register from Monday to Friday from 10 am to
2 pm by calling us at 5141634. Participants should come with an attitude
of respect and solidarity, without engaging in provocations or seeking
individual or organizational prominence. We ourselves will be
coordinating and leading the caravan.

Finally, we wish to inform the news media that, as of now, we will only
speak through communiqués, because we think that due to the fact that we
may not always speak the Spanish language clearly and precisely, some
journalists have misinterpreted what we have said and reported things in
their newspapers that we never meant to say. This situation has been
taken seriously in our community assembly, which came to an agreement
and gave us this mandate. And so we send our word to you and extend our
sincere thanks to those of you who wish to publish it.
